Nic(h)e social networks
A lot of smart people are trying to predict where social networks are going next. I believe that in some cases social networks will start moving towards niche networks and away from the large networks such as Facebook. Facebook and MySpace are undeniably very popular, but these sites are starting to feel like a gigantic ocean of faces. Seems like building the number of connections is a much the reason to be there as networking is. Maybe only outweighed by sending your friends variations of the same useless applications. I actually think MySpace may fare better in the long run because of its younger audience. Facebook at some point will begin to be .. boring? You can join a network of like minded people, but do people interact with people in these groups? Not claiming to be statistically significant, but I don't see much of it.
Faithfound is an example of what will become a specialized (or niche) social network site. When we add social networking capabilities in '08 it will be a place where users can experience an instant connection with other members based on faith. If we get it right there is a nice opportunity according the the new numbers from eMarketer.
[Insert cool stats of value to others here]
I was going to insert a lot of cools stats, but blogger.com sucks and I am giving up trying to upload anything. Upload breaks consistently.
Moving to wordpress when I have a new design.
